Common Decor Styles
by Megan Thriepland
Each décor style has its own unique look and feel and is identifiable by specific characteristics. Often styles are mixed together to achieve a unique feel that is tailored to its owner’s preferences by using various patterns, colours, furniture and accessories to achieve a space that makes the home owner happy. The following are just some of the many styles of décor that are found today in homes all around the world.
The terms “Modern” and “Contemporary” are often misused. These two styles are not the same. Modern décor refers to a style created in the 1920s; it is a defined style that does not change. Contemporary on the other hand is an ever-changing concept of décor, referring to the popular décor and trends of the day, and will be different as popular styles change.
