In the 17th and 18th centuries, Europeans created a décor style based on the popular period design elements originating from Japan, China, Thailand and Vietnam. The reproduced furniture and accessories based on this design are called Chinoiserie (a French term meaning Chinese-esque). This style uses natural elements such as bamboo, ornamental designs and bright colours from nature, along with mythical creature imagery such as dragons and phoenixes.
