Victorian Style
Victorian decor originated during the Industrial Revolution (1837-1901) and the reign of Queen Victoria. This period saw the rise of mass production of furniture, accessories, fabrics and wallpaper. Decorating the home became less expensive and gave access to not only aristocracy but also middle classes. This style was designed to showcase wealth and status. Materials such as wallpaper and fabrics often depicting damask, large animal prints and floral patterns, along with parquet floors, marble tiles and decorative lamps became increasingly popular. With prices at the lowest they had ever been, people collected clusters of accessories and small furnishings.
